From the Home Office in a FOGGY and RAINY Colorado Springs
Yes, even in a place which honestly has over 300 days of
SUNSHINE, occasionally we get a day like today. It is refreshing!
I have been continuing to brainstorm ideas to develop at
OurSprings.com that will give those who visit reasons to
come back.
Using some of my past experiences with monthly publications,
I feel that I need to pursue things that are column like types
of things. One thing I would like to have is something that is
humorous. Something that makes a person LAUGH, SMILE.
Friend Steve made a comment this morning at what has become
kind of like a monthly meeting we have that makes a lot of sense.
He works at an organization dedicated to helping and counseling
those with problems of drug addiction, alcoholism etc.
He observed that what is often needed for those that are struggling
with life is something to laugh about.
Isn't this true.
So you know people with struggles or burdens that weigh so heavily
there is no laughter? Humor is an odd thing when you think about
it. And it is so important to one's health.
Isn't it an interesting character quality we have all have within us?
The fact is, don't we all desire things that make us LAUGH? Bring
smiles?
There is no doubt.
I find comedians a rare breed. Those with the ability to take words
and situations, put a slant on them we all can relate to and make
us laugh. It feels good.
I have been finding myself lately listening to the comedy channel
on my XM radio. I can only wonder what others are thinking when
they look in my car and see me with tears in my eyes from the
gut busters I am having from listening to that channel. These
people are funny..actually...their observations of the mundane are
FUNNY.
I am looking forward to that unique story on the site that causes
visitors to laugh. IT will be an enjoyable and important link to
getting visitors to return.
Key components to a successful web site
In the article I mentioned the other day (see forum for link),
26 steps to 15K a Day, the one thing standing out from all
others is that it takes TIME to get your site built to the point
where there is established traffic.
A most effective way to accomplish the quality number of
pages is to just add 1 per _________. You fill in the blank.
I am focused on doing just that. One at a time. It is working.
Even at this pace, I still find myself hurrying to get the page
finished and uploaded, only to find mistakes or something
that I could have written more clearly, used better examples,
etc. What is good is that I can always go back, add or revise
the parts I need to and re-upload the page. (BTW -- I find
it cool how fast it is literally to go from making the change
to having the update live on the internet...seconds!)
For what its worth....
My "trial" period using WS_FTP Pro as my upload tool expired.
So I found that my host offers a free FTP tool. I must say
I miss WS_FTP Pro's functionality. I think it is well worth its
price, somewhere around $49, I think. I plan on purchasing
it.
And before we go, put a smile on that mug, Junior....
If you haven't noticed, I really like Martin Avis' KickStartYourLife forum.
This was from a post by Larry.
This is the story of an African ruler who had a lifelong friend who
no matter what happened, good or bad, would exclaim,
"This is good!"
The king decided to go on a hunting trip and took along his old
friend to act as bearer and to load the guns ready for firing. All
was well, with the ruler making lots of kills and his friend shouting
"This is good!" each time, until...
...the ruler spying more prey, took aim, pulled the trigger and...
KaBoom! The gun, having been poorly loaded, exploded, and tore
off the rulers thumb.
The friend of course, joyously exclaimed "This is good!"
"Damn you!" said the ruler, "This is not good, this is very, very bad.
And I'm sick to death of you thinking that everything that happens
is good"
The ruler had his friend thrown into jail.
One year later the ruler was again out hunting, this time alone. A tribe
of cannibals captured him and through him into a large pot. Licking their
lips in anticipation of the feast to come, the cannibals were about to light
the fire under the pot, when one of them noticed the missing thumb. It
was a superstition of the tribe never to eat anyone who was less than
whole, so they set their intended meal free.
Upon reaching home the ruler had his friend released, and said to him,
"I have done you a great injustice. When my thumb was blown off it
was indeed good, but when I put you in jail that was very, very bad!"
The friend looked at the ruler and replied " No! When you sent me to jail,
I said to myself This is good! and I was right! If I was not in jail I would
have been with you, and being whole, would have been eaten!"
:)
