Final Four Wisdom
Mike Krzyzewski, head coach at Duke, was being interviewed
after his team once again had advanced to this years Final Four.
They have accomplished this 10 times in the last 19 years.
That is a level of success no other team even comes near
approaching in the modern era. Comparisons are made to
Coach K and UCLA's Coach Wooden.
Krzyzewski was asked if the season would have been a failure
had they not won the game that placed them once again in
position to win the National Championship.
His response is telling. He said that while losing would have
been very disappointing, it would not have been a failure.
The team had accomplished so much, losing that one game
would have not have made the season a disappointment!
That puts things in perspective, doesn't it? Falling short
is not failure.
One disappointment does not negate a previous success.
Especially previous successes...plural.
Once again, it brings light to the importance of the journey.
Not the final result.
Making the Final Four in anything is really not about the
Final Four. It's about the JOURNEY to the Final Four!
And that is all about all those little daily things they did...
EVERYDAY to get there.
Your destination is determined by those seemingly
insignificant steps you make TODAY.
Four common Questions and My Common Answers
It is interesting as I go through this online process as
I'll call it, people are asking ME the same questions I
was asking relating to the website etc. Most are in
the how to realm.
Here's the common FOUR:
How long has this taken you?
TOO LONG! I tend to over-analyze. I suffer, I really do,
from Paralysis of Analysis! My friends will vouch that
they were tired of hearing me TALK about what I was
doing. Fact is, I use talk to work and think out the
how to! )I can hear them saying something like, "Now
that's a new load of crap!" But I did recently read that
they have now identified conversation as an actual learning
style. It is simply thinking out loud! I can't tell you how
powerful and true this is about me. Just ask my wife...
after listening and saying....Have you written this down!
Back to the question...I have spent the better part of the
last year bringing OurSprings to life.
Did you get a degree in this or take classes?
NO and NO. I graduated with a B.A. in English (many have
argued the university made a typo on my degree...placing
an A where there should have been an S...THAT is not true. I have
my DOCTORATE in that.) I have spent hours online, sought
help from friends and received a lot of great help in forums.
I do think taking some classes would be beneficial and probably
will take some in the future.
How did you design the site?
Having no knowledge/ability in HTML, it was clearly evident
the way to go was by using a template and learn HTML from
there. This was great advice I got early on. After numerous
searches on free or low cost templates, I took the plunge
and purchased one from allwebco. That has been one of my
BEST decisions. The have tremendous support and going
through that process has and is contributing to my learning
HTML.
What is your goal in this?
You have to have a goal??? Well, actually I am keeping some of
that to myself at this time. But my first major step is to develop
the site with quality content. A minimum of 50 pages. I want my
content pages showing up on page 1 of google searches. When
this happens, I will be ready for phase ll. I'll talk about that at that
later.
That NUMBER
The Alexa rating continues to improve. While this is not really a goal,
this number sometimes is relative to getting good placements on
searches. So I use it as just ONE of my benchmarks to watch and
rate my progress.
As of today, OurSprings ranks at 603,062. Down from last weeks
651,947.
