Only in America!
I've seen some of this before, but just for fun, consider this:
* can a pizza get to your house faster than an ambulance.
* are there handicap parking places in front of a skating rink.
* do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.
* do people order double cheese burgers, large fries, and a diet coke.
* do banks leave both doors open and then chain the pens to the counters.
* do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage.
* do we use answering machines to screen calls and then have call waiting so we won't miss a call from someone we didn't want to talk to in the first place.
* do we buy hot dogs in packages of ten and buns in packages of eight.
* do we use the word "politics" to describe the process so well: "Poli" in Latin meaning
"many" and "tics" meaning 'bloodsucking creatures'.
* do they have drive-up ATM machines with Braille lettering. (No better example of political correctness than this. :] )
And yet, there really is no place like America!
SELF EDUCATION IS THE BEST EDUCATION
There is no doubt in my mind that what I have learned since college has been far more valuable than what I learned in college!
Interestingly, most of the stuff learned since has been from self education. I find that learning new skills, considering new ideas and approaches to things keeps one motivated.
I was talking with an eighty year *young* man a couple of weeks ago that was planning a cruise. Now, I don't know what you are thinking, but let me tell you that my first thoughts were something like what was an 80 year old doing going on a cruise. Shouldn't he be keeping it close to home? My thinking was the problem.
In talking with him, I found a most optimistic, energized, positive thinking person! It was a pleasure and was one of those times that leaves you feeling better after.
He shared his secret to his long and healthy life by saying the key for him was to keep moving!
Keep moving...
Now that rings so true to me. The desire and commitment in one's life to keep moving, growing, learning, striving...this is the secret to living regret free.
Seems too many reach a point of discouragement, especially after getting beat down, and stop learning or moving.
He specifically said that physically moving had been very important in his opinion in having lived a healthy life. At 80, he continued to get out with his wife and go dancing...it did help with him having a 24 year old wife. LOL I am making that part up!
I need to move more. Going to have to use that treadmill more often. Working with the internet really mandates that you get off your duff now and then!
Booking a cruise at 80 shows that had kept up with the times. He lived a life of learning, and at 80! was still going.
Keep moving, learning and living!
CONTINUING ED
I recently read an ebook that is helping me with a project I am excited about. I am in the process of completing my own eBook on a subject I have some expertise. It will help others a number of ways to do what they had so called experts handle for them in the past.
I really believe, as I have previously mentioned, that there is opportunity for many of us marketing online. There was a lot of things being written a few years ago on how this new median would be used. Of course, most reports focused on what didn't work.
I have found there are those marketing many things today online very successfully. One of the successful ways is providing valuable "how to" information. It was reported that last year people paid over a billion dollars for information!
In How to Publish and Write Your Own eBook in as Little as 7 Days , I was able to develop a couple ideas that I believe will be profitable for an eBook.
What is the format? First, brainstorm and identify a niche market. Something you have some knowledge of or passion for. Second, analyze the needs, wants and problems within the market. Third, your subject to write about is found in satisfying, meeting and solving the problems. Fourth, the keys to marketing the information in a profitable way online in the format of an eBook is the final step.
There are so many things we do today for ourselves that in the past were done by others.
Do you have a specialty? Have you done something that would help others save time or money? If so, you have the seed for a great idea. And the online median is your doorway to a never before huge reachable market!
As time progresses, I will be sharing more of the specifics of my venture. For now, I am close to completion of the rough draft of my first book. The process has been a great learning experience. I am excited to document the results.
